Red-footed plumeleteer hummingbird hovering beside pink blossom

Plate VI · SP Wildways Photography

Red-footed Plumeleteer

A hummingbird pauses at the blossom, barely, and only once.

A flowering hedge at the forest edge. The visits lasted seconds, the hover barely longer, and this pause at the blossom happened exactly once.

The paper was chosen, not defaulted to. Hahnemühle Photo Rag is a 100% cotton paper with a smooth matte surface, the stock most galleries and museums reach for when the photograph itself has to do the talking. These photographs live in shadow, and a heavily textured paper competes with that. This one carries it, holds its blacks, and lets the light settle into the fibre rather than sit on top of it.
